A journalist writing under the name of "An Excursionist" records his thoughts after sailing from Port Victor to Goolwa through the Murray mouth on board the "Queen of the South" under the captaincy of George Bain Johnston [pictured] in 1879.
Captain George Bain Johnston's great great grandson is the current custodian of an award in recognition of the Captain's amazing record for successful crossings in and out of the mouth of the River Murray near Goolwa as well as trade along the River Murray, right up to Wentworth.
